A workshop on "Club Drugs: Your First Time Could Be Your Last" will offer insight on drugs known as Ecstasy, GHB, and Rohypnol ("Roofies").
The workshop will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, at the Joint Vocational School, 150 Price Rd., Newark.
Typically used by young adults and teenagers, these drugs are odorless and tasteless. Since the drugs can be slipped into someone's drink without the victim's knowledge and the victim may not remember what happens while under the drug's influence, these substances are sometimes known as "date rape drugs."
The program includes a skit by teen volunteers from PAVE (Prevent Assault and Violence Education), a program of the Mental Health Association.
Kenya Black, PAVE coordinator, will offer information on connections between drug use and sexual assault.
Adults and teens are welcome to attend. Parents and teens may wish to attend together.
Registration is required. The $5 workshop fee may be reduced or waived on request. To register, call (740) 522-1341 or toll-free, (888) 260-2613, or e-mail mhalc@alink.com.
The Mental Health Association is a member agency of United Way and the Community Mental Health and Recovery Board.
