The Union that represents Deputies in the Licking County Sheriff’s Office has voted to amend their contract which could end up saving a number of jobs.

Colonel Chad Dennis says that Sheriff Randy Thorp asked the Teamsters Union to change their contract to extend their shifts.

“We asked the union to look at amending the contract that we currently have, which says that we can use 8 and 10 hour shift schedules here. They took that to a vote with the membership and the vote was successful and they agreed to open up negotiations on the shift schedules of 12 hours.”

Dennis says the Teamsters represent all deputies. and the move could potentially save in a worst case scenario, 20 jobs.

The union will work out further details with Sheriff Thorp and Colonel Dennis this week.
