Lawmakers have canceled a last-minute meeting to salvage a budget deal, further weakening any chances of reaching a deal before the July 1st deadline.
The meeting, planned for Sunday night, was rescheduled for today (Monday).
The cancellation reflects a continuing stalemate over Gov. Ted Strickland's proposal to put slot machines at Ohio's race tracks to raise nearly $1 billion in revenue.
Republicans say they can't support the plan because voters rejected slots at racetracks on the ballot in 2006.
Strickland said it's now up to Republicans to say what they would do.
If they can't make the deadline, lawmakers will have to pass a temporary budget at reduced funding levels to last a few days in order to give themselves more time to negotiate.
