The Newark school board has identified six candidates to replace Keith Richards as superintendent.

Only one candidate is local; Dale Dickson, superintendent of the Perry Hocking Educational Service Center in New Lexington.

One candidate is from out of state, associate superintendent of Baltimore County schools in Maryland Jonathan Brown.

The four remaining applicants are all superintendents in Ohio, including Richmond Heights, West Unity, Middletown and Elgin Local Schools in Marion.

Interviews will take place in executive session next week.
